How to Remove Pollen From Your Car
Finally, after a pretty chilly Winter here in Charleston, Spring has arrived and nature is starting to stir. Good news for your carefully-tended garden, not so great for your car.
Over the next few months, as pollen counts rise, your beloved motor could be left with a dingy yellowish coating, which if left untreated or removed incorrectly might begin to destroy the paint.
The Effects of Pollen on Your Car
The two most common types of pollen – tree and flower – land on your car and attach themselves to the paint. Once there the grain’s acidity, which is often activated by environmental factors (April showers for example) can cause staining and premature oxidization.
How to Remove Pollen From Your Car
Two mistakenly popular methods for removing pollen are:
1. Wiping it off with a cloth. This causes little scratches as the same microscopic prongs that attach the pollen to a bee are dragged across your paint job. Over time these add up and can cause lasting damage.
2. Rinsing the car down using a hose. This doesn’t remove all the pollen and the particles that remain have now begun oxidizing thanks to the water.
